Oh, maybe sometimes I find it hard to comply with people that don't look you in the eye.

I was driving home last night, and all I could think about – in between deciding what to make for tea – was what dress to feature today. I had no photos saved from last weekend. I’d had a bit of an outfit-rotation-week at work, not wearing anything I haven’t featured before. And I couldn’t think of any day dresses that I could wear for casual Friday that I haven’t shown before.

When I got home, I had a root through my wardrobe, and found this little grey flowery number, which I bought last year from Primark. It’s the desaturated twin of this dress, although the fit isn’t quite the same. It’s a bit tighter, for one thing, which is why it’s been relegated to the back of my wardrobe for a while, as it didn’t fit! But I tried it on this morning, on the offchance, and it does again. By far the best thing about losing a bit of weight is rediscovering Lost Clothes, isn’t it?

I had my fringe cut back in last night as it had totally grown out. I'm so pleased to have it back - it just makes a simple hairdo, like a bun, so much more 'done', you know? And I will be re-redding my hair this weekend, too!

It’s cute though, and comfortable, and for casual Fridays – I am, as ever, leading a one-woman fight against the enforced wearing of jeans on Fridays – it’s kind of perfect. But it’s Primark, and I always feel like there’s an element of luck with how their clothes fit. Sometimes you can get it SO right – their shoes, for instance, are cut oddly wide, meaning they fit my plate-feet perfectly – and sometimes so wrong. And this is a bit awkward. The collar doesn’t lie quite flat. The sleeves are a bit tight. The zip is a complete bugger to do up. So yeah, while it is a nice dress, it’s also one of those dresses that you can’t wait to get out of at the end of the day and back into your pyjamas. I mean, your going out clothes. I have a social life, honest.

I’d accept this dress as an ‘almost there’ dress, if it wasn’t for the fact that it reminds me a lot of this dress and this dress, both of which fit perfectly and never fail to be comfortable. What do you think? Is it worth keeping dresses like that? Or do you think I should just donate it to the charity shop and use the spare hanger for something I like more?

  3. I honestly wouldn't have know it had all those minor fitting niggles you've mentioned. It looks absolutely beautiful on you.

  4. I think this looks really good on you, would never have thought it was Primark. Although completely get what you mean about dresses that you can't wait to get out of...I wore one today and it was such a relief to swap it for my "indoor" clothes the moment I got home! x

  5. It looks good, but if you're not comfortable then my motto is to get rid - free up space for something new that you absolutely love! I've adopted a one-in, one-out approach to shopping as my wardrobe's bulging at the seams.

  6. I always find in my wardrobe I have the clothes that I "can't fit into at the moment" and the clothes that I think "oh god I forgot I have this, why don't I wear this more often?" and then you wear it for the day and all the little niggly things you mentioned in your blog start to annoy you and you think "THATS why I don't wear it anymore"

Aside from that, the dress does look really lovely.

Completely agree with you about a fringe, when mine starts to grow out I just scrape it back with a headband and bobby pins, which make a bun or a pony looks boring, but I always find that a fringe makes it that much more edgey and done.

  8. I think the dress looks amazing on you. Though I also think that you should donate it to me. haha.
I've never really been a dress person... ever. But recently I've been obsessed. Every night when I get home I'm trawling the internet for pretty dresses, not much look so far.
In other words, don't give up the dress it's too pretty.

  9. Your hair looks so lovely Sarah, I do 'get' what you mean about feeling more polished with a fringe. I have a sideswept one at the moment, and it sits awkwardly if I don't blowdry it properly. Such a cute dress too, I'm forever envious of your beautiful dress collection. Hate it when dresses are horrificly uncomfortable haha, there's nothing like the feeling of taking your tights and dress off (wink wink) and hopping straight into pyjamas! xx

  10. The dress looks like it fits really well. You do look lovely in it. For some reason I can never find anything decent in my Primark...ever (or maybe I get put off by the large crowds), but I need to have a proper rummage there.

  11. Think the dress looks lovely, and love the feeling of discovering something fits that you either weren't expecting to or hasn't done for a while.

I hate that the Primark stock can be so very right or so annoyingly wrong. If the dress isn't quite as it should be, I'd send it to charity. Nothing worse than not being quite comfortable in your clothes and they always give me another excuse to hit the shower and climb into PJs of an evening.

  14. I had this dress in red and found it had the same problems as what you have listed. I ended up selling it on ebay. It is a really lovely dress but I dont know if its worth it if you dont feel comfortable!

  15. That is a gorgeous dress - and to me it looks like it fits you beautifully!

I think at primark prices it's worth keeping, as items that are 'almost there' are often quite good to have when you are a bit bored of your favourite clothes and are looking for something a bit different without going shopping!

  16. I love this dress on you! I find Primark so badly fitting though, you literally have to try a million things on to find something that fits! I have been quite brutal recently and if I don't wear it, I get rid of it...I'd rather have a wardrobe of clothes I love rather than like :)

  21. It looks lovely, but if you don't feel comfortable in it, I'd say donate it and use the space for something you can't wait to put on, rather than get off.
