Teenage dirtbag.

Something about this little tartan dress compels me to style it childishly. I think there's something a little schoolgirl about it. Maybe it's the Catholic schoolgirl connotations, or possibly it's because, to me, tartan is a very 90s fashion choice. Ah, I still remember sneaking into see The Craft when I was 12 or 13 with my friend Lisa, wearing my shortest tartan skirt in an attempt to look 15. Those were the days.

The last time I featured this dress, I went full-on schoolgirl with pigtails and a boater hat. And while I think it's pretty cute like that, I think it was bordering on fancy dress! To be honest, back then I wasn't sure about this dress. It's really quite short, and with bare legs I felt a bit, er, exposed. It's much better with my trusty opaques, don't you think? I actually ended up wearing it with boots in the end - I think wearing it with Converse is a little bit too Avril Lavigne, and that's not REALLY my look these days.

Dress - Apricot
Tights - Primark
Necklace - Dorothy Perkins
Belt - Tesco
Converse trainers c/o Spartoo

I am fond of it, though, despite not wearing it all that much. It's pretty well documented that I am stubbornly against the rule about redheads wearing red (perhaps because I'm not a natural redhead, but to be honest I think there's nothing wrong with a bit of clashing) and I'm a fan of wearing something so vibrant. I'd be a rubbish detective, really, as with my wardrobe you'd always see me coming.

  2. I hear you on the too-short issue - I have so many summery little dresses that never see the light of summer sun because, while I'm perfectly comfortable to wear them with thick tights, I'm not quite willing to expose the bare flesh of my thighs when it's too warm for tights! I hate dark colours, so I'm perfectly happy to wear my summery frocks throughout winter, but I'd like to wear then during the hotter months too!

  3. I really like both of these looks, although I completely get you on the short issue. I have loads of summer dresses that I'm too scared to wear in the summer because they're that little be too short. I love how you've styled the dress with the tights and converse - there's nothing wrong with a little bit of Avril Lavigne every so often! x
