If you looked at our bedrooms, you’d know in an instant that both Matt and I had never lived with a partner before. Mine is super girlie... his is super brown. Seriously, what is it with guys and brown? Ugh. We’re both going to have to compromise a little on the aesthetics next year, but I think we’ll make it work (although I have no idea where I’m going to put all my shoes!).
Because of this, I’ve been hunting high and low for new duvet covers. Mine are all hearts and flowers – it kind of looks like Cath Kidston threw up in here – and his? Yeah, you guessed it. Brown. The thing with boy-friendly duvet covers is that the girl has to like them too. You might be happy to settle on having everything white, but I like a colourful bedspread – it’s such a major part of the room. Here are my favourites...
I love the fox one and the floral one! Dreading crossing the 'combining rooms and all our stuff' bridge myself!

I think you've come up with some great compromises. I'm not sure how I'd cope with moving in with a boyfriend as I really wouldn't want to part with my pink and floral bedding. Saying that, my sister in law is equally as girly so my brother, who is very manly-I-like-black-and-heavy-rock/metal-music, sleeps in a very floral Cath Kidston bedroom. Weirdly I don't think he's that bothered!
ReplyDeleteUrgh, feeling your pain - Jon put a ban on anything pink and girly when we moved in together... However he doesn't really get much of a say in what duvet set we have on the bed, I have an amazing china pattern set that is allowed because it's navy blue and white! Not to mention the Scandi Christmas duvet I have... which, oh, I should probably put on the bed now it's November! Huzzah! xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a great collection of duvets! I love the foxes - they're my all-time fave. And congratulations on the move, it's a seriously exciting step to take in a relationship.
ReplyDeleteAll I'm going to say is, don't compromise! Boys...don't really care that much?? When I put my old duvet (from my 'own room') on our new shared bed (http://theyupblog.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/we-chose-bed-get-laid-beds.html), he didn't bat an eyelid - although my girl friends were amazed that 'he let me have such a girly room!'
I think the browns, greys and blacks boys gravitate to is normally due to a serious lack of imagination (and washing-related laziness!!)

Oh where are the foxes from?
ReplyDeleteI don't think boys care too much either - we live in a pretty girly house, because I bought everything. Birds is a good compromise - my bf bought us a set of grey bird covers in his words 'not too girly - but you won't complain about them'
