Life update and general chatter

So, March already. This year is flying by – but don't they all? 2016 is going to be a big year of change for me, yet at the moment I feel like I’m rather stuck in a rut... probably because I’m in a very similar position to the one I was in 2 years ago.

Home
Moving back in with my parents has been fine. Not without it's stresses, but it’s been about a month now, and I feel like we’re finding our routine again. The hardest part is space, to be honest. We’re luckier than most, with the loft room to ourselves (which includes a bathroom, too) but it’s still a lot smaller than the flat we left. Although we’ve found space for everything, it just feels messy all the time – especially when we need to hang up washing. Which is pretty constant. And we have a bit of the ‘last few boxes’ syndrome, too. Should get on that. *doesn't*

Money
Saving is the main reason for moving home, and this is a lovely positive one. We’re saving literally thousands. Nothing brought it home like the other night when we had an admin session and I paid off my credit cards and my overdraft – I have NEVER paid off my overdraft, ever since I got it at university. That felt pretty amazing. We’re going to have our deposit by late summer, and then we can start house hunting. Exciting! I’m sure it’ll take longer than we think, but the longer we’re at home, the more we’ll save. I do have to stop buying dresses and pretty shoes though - it doesn't help when Spartoo keep getting in gorgeous new deliveries though!

Work
I’m really loving work. I can’t tell you how much it’s improved my mental state to be in a job that I enjoy. I left my job of 5 years in August 2014, and at the two jobs I've had since then, I really didn't have enough to do. That’s actually a pretty depressing position to be in for me - I hate not feeling useful. Now, I’m busy, I’m useful, and I'm confident that I'm damn good at what I do. Plus I love the people I work with. I have work friends again. And I care about the company. They do a lot of good. For the first time ever, I feel like I’ve found a job for life.

Health
Well, we just had a holiday to Bruges and finally broke our curse – neither of us was ill! (Seriously – every bloody time we've been away in the last two years) I’m feeling pretty good at the moment. But I want to start eating a lot better – I’ve been in this awful cycle of eating amazingly for a few weeks and then having a huge binge, and it’s SO bad for me. I’ve got a longer post in the works about all this, but ultimately I need to get to a point where I’m eating well 90% of the time, letting myself have treats in that 10% and not obsessing about it. I’m not there yet. I’m unhappy with my weight at the moment and how I look, and I need to work on resolving that before I can get to this amazing balanced space. But if I can try and be balanced while I’m trying to lose, that would be great. It is possible. Not easy, but possible. I have some healthy, tasty recipes coming up on here and lots more planned, too.

Blog
I’m pretty happy with my content right now, but lately I've struggled to find the time to update it. I need to get better at saying no to some opportunities, so I don’t end up bunching loads of them together, and trying to dedicate an evening a week to scheduling posts. Life gets in the way sometimes, and that’s ok – it’s something I like about blogging as a hobby, as there’s a lot less pressure to update super frequently than if it was a full time thing. But also, I would like to at least have something new up every week (ideally 2 or 3 times a week) – it’s just about getting better organised, sometimes. Is there anything you’d like to see more or less of? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter.

Upcoming
This seems like it’s going to be a busy year. In between buying a house and all that other stuff - which is pretty considerable - my sister is getting married so I have hen dos to organise (including one in Spain!) and we’ve got a couple of other weddings in the calendar too. Matt turns 30 in September and we’re really hoping to get away for that, ideally something last minute and all-inclusive that just involves lying in the sun (or, most likely, the shade), reading lots of books and relaxing. We’re both a bit desperate for one of those holidays, and we’re hoping that by September we’ll know where we’re at with houses and we can get away. I would also LOVE to go to a Christmas market in Germany or similar in December – that’s one for the list, but I can’t make too many plans when we’re trying to be sensible and save. It doesn't help when I see flights to Copenhagen for under £20, but I'm going to grit my teeth and resist for now.

Anyway. How are you?

  3. Sounds like the saving is going super-well! It'll definitely be worth moving back in with your parents if you get a deposit together :) We went to Copenhagen in 2014 and loved it (sorry that might not help with your spending)!
