Meet me in the summertime.

I adore it when you’ve had such a good time that you remain on a high for some time afterwards. I felt like this after Italy. God, was it hard to come back to reality – was it ever – but I’d had such an amazing time that I felt quite zen about it all. And I felt like this on Monday morning, too, after a simply wonderful weekend.

I really think that Mother Nature needs to check her Suggestions Box and launch Summer in Autumn every year. It is the ultimate best. The glorious weather we’ve had was such an unexpected surprise that it seemed to put a smile on everyone’s faces (except my 9 months pregnant sister, who texted me to say: ‘For god’s sake, I had the last one in a bloody heatwave!’). Suddenly, here was an opportunity to do all those things that we’d wanted to do in the summer, but thought we’d missed our chance.

And I got to do the item that had been on my summer list since Easter, which was HAVE A PICNIC. I’ve wanted a picnic FOREVER. I love picnics! They combine several of my favourite things:
  • Sitting around
  • Being outside in nice weather
  • Eating nibbly bits
  • Being with friends
  • Totally acceptable opportunities to start drinking at lunchtime
(We didn’t actually do the last item on that list, because we were all still recovering slightly from the night before, but I like that if we had fancied it, it would have been totally fine. Picnics are ace.)

We raided M&S and sat in the Rose Garden by St Albans Abbey, eating, chatting and enjoying summer’s last hurrah. I spent a long time lying on my back, staring into the trees through my camera, trying to capture that blissful feeling of summer in a photograph. I couldn’t get close enough to show you how the sun shone through the red berries, making it seem as if they were alight, but the photos came out quite nicely, all the same.

As always, more photos are on my Facebook page!

  5. I love these kind of days where you set up a little picnic and chat with your friends over some fresh food.

I haven't done one of those in awhile, looks so lovely!

I love trees, I have more pictures of trees/landscapes than I do of most things (besides my kitties of course).
