Dress me, I'm your mannequin.

Front row bloggers!

Africa Fashion Week London was on last week, and I was lucky enough to go along on Saturday with some other bloggers as part of the See Africa Differently campaign. The campaign, in conjunction with Comic Relief, is something I really believe in. I think it's true for a lot of us that when we think of Africa, we think of all the negative aspects that are in the news - famine, poverty, etc. But there's so much positivity that has come out of Africa and African culture, and this campaign is focused on that - not just the fashion and style, but the food too.

AFWL was focused purely on the fashion though, and WHAT fashion! A lot of the designers taking part had flown into England especially. The clothes were gorgeous - lots of tribal prints and details inspired by traditional dress.

I was also so impressed with the models. I've been to LFW in the past, and the girls are skinny - may of them TOO skinny. There were some very slim models on the catwalks at AFWL, but most of them were had actual boobs and bums and thighs that were actually thicker than their wrists. There was no big deal made out of it - it was just real women with real curves.

One of the gorgeous models - on and off the catwalk!

It was an amazing day - I loved sitting front row! Huge thanks to the 1000heads team for inviting me along, and it was lovely to hang out with some lovely blogging ladies like Zoe, Christina, Emily and Kristabel, and to finally meet MJ, Frankie and Reena properly!

Make sure you follow @see_africa on Twitter for news of their next plans, and some great competitions - they just gave away two items from the ASOS Africa range.

  5. That's really encouraging news about the models. You can see the ribcage of the girl with the big pink hat on though - erk, it squicks me out to see ribs like that.

We have a big free music festival in Liverpool called Africa Oye which is amazing. Loads of musicians come from all over Africa, tons of food stalls, some trade stands. It's great fun and all freeeeeeeee!

  8. Wow, what a fantastic opportunity and what a great seat! The dresses look amazing and it is nice to see people celebrating all that is positive about the African continent. As you say, in amongst political instability and poverty issues, the diversity and richness of the african culture is often sidelined - this seems like a brilliant event and glad to hear that you enjoyed it!

  13. The models look fantastic, so curvy (and healthy!) The last girl looks like she's got so much personality- not just a blank template. And I love the clothes, lots of inspiration there!
