All that's missing is the sea.

Something about the sunshine puts all my fashion rules aside. I am normally Queen of Jewel Tones – my entire wardrobe is dark green, dark purple, dark blue… plus a massive amount of red and black. And while I still can’t get behind pastels (although there is a white-with-blue-flowers dress in my wardrobe I’m shocked by how much I love it) I found myself having a bit of a tropical moment in Topshop.

I was drawn to this hot pink pleated skirt at once, to the extent that I said aloud ‘Oh, I LOVE that!’ (Yes, I was alone. Yes, the shop assistant stared at me. What’s your problem, shop assistant? If it were me, I would have said ‘Great taste! I love that too! Buy it!’) Isn’t it pretty?

And this orange dress! I know! Orange! ORANGE!! But it’s such a lovely warm colour, and the shape is gorgeous, and it’s so SUMMERY.

In fact, this combo puts me in mind of the time I was trying on bridesmaid dresses and they didn’t have the style I wanted in the right colour, so I tried on the only option they had, which was bright pink with an orange sash. Sounds disgusting, right? BUT IT WAS AMAZING. The colours together created this amazing tropical colour scheme, I found myself seriously considering persuading the bride to ditch her tasteful Berkshire venue and hop on a plane to Acapulco where we would conduct the wedding barefoot, and all wear bright colours and flowers in our hair.

And now I find myself casting away my polka dots and muted florals in favour of BRIGHT COLOURS. The summer is here, girls! It’s here! Let’s dress for it before it goes away again!
