Happiness in magazines.

Last Friday, I took the day off work and headed into London for an exciting day of fun times! I was invited along to the launch of Amelia's Compendium of Fashion Illustration put on by Amelia Gregory (of Amelia's Magazine). It's a gorgeous, stunning book, full of amazing and inspiring illustrations - I'd already gazed at it online and had very nearly bought it already, and after having a flick through it at the party, it is well and truly on my wish list.

I went along for tea and cakes in the afternoon and it was lovely - I nibbled miniature scones, sipped peppermint tea (well - one sip - nope, still not a tea convert) and had a grand old time watching the illustrators at work and catching up with some of my favourite blogging ladies - Ellie from Pretty Much Penniless, Fiona from Save Our Shoes and Carrie from WishWishWish.

I also had an illustration done by Rachel de Ste. Croix aka Precious Little. She's very talented!

Ellie managed to escape my camera so I have represented her here in illustration form, given the theme of the event. It is uncanny. I am 98% sure there were definitely bees.

(I was late because my watch had stopped, and also because I went to get cupcakes)

After the party, I enjoyed an after-dark wander around Shoreditch with Ellie, Carrie and Fi which included a wander around Caravan - basically my dream house in shop form - and a quick dinner in The Breakfast Club. Fi and I also popped back to the Amelia's party to see the evening entertainment - it seemed amazing but it was crazy busy and we were sleepyheads, so we said our goodbyes. I then headed home and explored the goody bag - so generous! I loved reading through the last print issue of Amelia's Magazine on the train, but I think my favourite thing was the Tatty Devine cutlass necklace - amazing!

I wore this dress from Miss Selfridge, which is about three years old. My friend and I call it my Victorian Widow dress because it's so old-fashioned, although actually, it's really quite on-trend at the moment! I do love it, the pleats in the skirt are gorgeous and you know I'm a sucker for a statement collar and polka dots.

I teamed it with a red hat - it was COLD - and this red belt and cardi. The shoes came along, but never made it out of my bag - I did so much walking that it was definitely day for flat boots. Oh - I also wore my new bag from Accessorize which I picked up in the sale for a bargain £7.50! It's so cute and amazingly, big enough for my camera.

Dress - Miss Selfridge
Tights & Shoes - New Look
Bag & Elephant Necklace - Accessorize
Hat & Cameo/Heart Necklace - Topshop

Oh - I also had my hair cut! First time in 3 months - a lot of it is gone. Although it needed it, I miss it!

  1. I think the greatest part of this post is the picture of Ellie. Honestly.

  3. just before i got to the bit about your hair cut i was thinking to myself - 'wow her hair looks awesome today'! it looks gorgeous!

  11. Looks like so much fun! I wish I could've made it: I had my invite and everything!
Hehe, love the illustration of Ellie. Really looks like her.

Your dress looks perfect. Love all the red in the look.

  12. Oh man, this looks so good! The goodie bag looks especially amazing with the cutlass necklace :D To be honest though, your illustration of Ellie has totally stolen the show, c'est magnifique!

  13. I REALLY love that red bag!

  14. I've got that dress! Although (confession time), I've NEVER worn it..! It's a size or so too big, & just doesn't look right on me. But I love it nonethless, so have never managed to get rid of it (who am I kidding, I don't get rid of anything. At all. Ever)

I am seriously tempted now though to go & dig it out & try it with some red accessories, a la you! Because you look damn good missy.. Would you be offended or flattered if I took a leaf out of your book & tried a similar way to wear that dress..? Although now I'm annoyed because I'm realising I don't have all that much red anything in my possession..

Anyway, this has turned into a super-long comment, about not much at all - so, bye!

  15. Wow this looks like an amazing event, I love the illustration of you and all the details they used. Also, best goodybag ever! I need to hunt down Amelias magazine. And I love it when you find something in the wardrobe that happens to be so this season, aren't you glad you kept the dress!

  16. That is an UNCANNY picture of Ellie. You didn't need a photo at all!

You looked rpetty: I like your dress. And I love that picture of Fi!

Comments make my day. :) I love you.
