"Being the Nicola"
I coined this term a few weeks ago, when going out with a group of girlies who, while I love dearly, I have very little in common with, at least on the surface. I wouldn't look - or feel - right with fake tan and false nails. I prefer delicate, quirky necklaces over chunky, glitzy beads. I like my accessories to look as if they could pass for vintage or antique (even if they're high street).
It's fine, of course - I am who I am, and am totally happy with my style - but sometimes I can't help but get fed up with being a little bit different.
My latest inspiration in these moments is Miss Roberts here. She always looks like the odd one out in Girls Aloud, and has spoken out before about trying in vain to fit in - but now she's embraced her quirkiness, she's about five thousand times cooler. So much more interesting and stylish than ever before - and SO much more so than the rest of her St Tropez-loving bandmates. Love this girl.
nicola looks gorgeous in these pictures, i actually think she's got a really interesting style and is very pretty, i think this might have something to do with me always lusting after red hair though! i want to be a redhead so bad! x
ReplyDeleteThe first picture is brilliant! Emphasises your point exactly. If I had to pick a favourite, Nicole would be it.
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling of being odd girl out. Majority of my friends are size 10-12 and there I am at a loud & proud size 24!
God I love Nicola, she is amazing. xx
ReplyDeleteNicola is by far my favourite Girls Aloud gal too! Her hair colour is so so perfect, I wish it suited my skin tone. I'm a bit of an oddball in my group of friends too, I'm the one who'll wear the same outfit in the day and night, and just whack a load of eyeliner on and mess up my hair a bit, instead of spend hours getting ready! xxx
ReplyDeleteShe's really come into her own the past few years - It's nice to see her more confident now xx
ReplyDeleteNicola is so amazingly gorgeous, I absolutely adore her! I really love hw she's gone from the ugly duckling one of girls aloud to hands down the most interestingand attractive one, just by being who she is.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for being the Nicola - and you know we blog readers always here to share your love of all things quirky and vintagey!
She's definitely the coolest, and looking more and more stunning by the day it seems. I'm glad she managed to embrace her uniqueness rather than carry on pretending to be something she's not.
ReplyDeleteAnd yoou missy should be proud to be the Nicola :) equally lovely and quirky in all the right ways x
She is the coolest, sometimes it can be hard accepting you are different, I am nothing like my friends, they love getting trollied and shop in hypnotic, but I love them, and they love me for who I am, so that's always nice. xx
ReplyDeleteI should save this post as i know exactly what you mean, even if i try and look a bit more "glamourous", i'll leave the house feeling ok-ish but then feel all uncomfortable.
ReplyDeleteHere's to Nicola's everywhere
x
i love this post! i can quite relate to you, it really can be difficult being different to those around you, even though we all know that being different is so much better. nicola is such a beauty, i wish i had her milky skin and red hair! plus her personal style has really developed into something amazing in recent years. xx
ReplyDeleteI've always thought Nicola was totally under rated and you get the likes of Chris Moyles slagging her off because she's not obviously beautiful or a little bit slutty.
ReplyDeleteShe's an elegant and stylish lady and these pictures of her a just stunning.
Team Nicola all the way.
She's fab isn't she? I love the idea of being the Nicola! Seriously thinking of dying my hair something like her lovely warm tones... But then, I guess that defeats the point of being true to myself ;)
ReplyDeletei absolutely agree with you. and have the same problem finding likewise people to me in newcastle.
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling- I don't think I've ever fitted in, and I have mostly male friends because I've rarely met other women I get on with or have anything in common with.
ReplyDeleteStick with it though, I love your style and as you said about Nicola Roberts, people who embrace themselves as they are, are a thousand times more genuine.
I LOVE her so much, her style is so inspiring and that pale skin is gorgeous, she definitely makes pale look stunning! I am one of 2 girls in my friendship group at home and I am definitely more out there with regards to clothes and style :)You my dear are simply stunning. End of.
ReplyDeleteMaria xxx
I have always thought that she is the most stunning one out of Girls Aloud. Her style is simply amazing, manages to pull anything off. I adore her hair.
ReplyDeleteI always think its better to be a lottle different. After all who wants to be a sheep?

Nicola was always my favourite. She was definitely the prettiest one and did have great style. I love these pictures of her. She looks gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI'm a pale addict! So much cuter than the orange look that so popular these days, although can be harder to do as you need to look peachy without being sallow.
ReplyDeleteNicola has nailed it.
xx
have to admit, although i love a bit of sun, i have never fake-tanned. i just don't think it's that appealing a look..
ReplyDeleteand i think nicola has the nicest style tbh of the lot!
Nicola is so stylish; she looks absolutely gorgeous since she has stopped trying to fit in with the Girls Aloud image too.
ReplyDeleteLovely to see a girl rocking pale skin!
